3. MARACAS / EGG SHAKERS

[Idea thanks to Camille's Primary Ideas]

Shake maracas/egg shakers as singing the song.

Repeat and shake to the recording below.

4. OBSTACLE COURSE

[Idea credit: Stacey Arrington Leybas]

I had a great singing time win today that I thought I’d share!

We did an obstacle course for the questions in the first verse of Have I Done Any Good:

Have I done any good in the world today? (Stand on the map)

Have I helped anyone in need? (Pick up toy groceries into the sack - corresponds with the flash card image someone posted earlier!)

Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad? (Flip the frown to a smile)

***pause for “If not I have failed indeed***

Has anyone’s burden been lighter today because I was willing to share? (Take heavy rock from a teacher volunteer and replace it with a lighter one)

Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way? (Teacher volunteer with blanket (for sick) and pillow (for weary) is escorted down the aisle)

When they needed my help was I there? (Stand next to teacher volunteer holding help sign)

Then wake up (stand up) and DO (stomp foot) something more

Than dream (fake sleeping with hands) of your mansion above (point up)

Doing good is a pleasure (I have a ruler prop that says “pleasure” on the back), a joy beyond measure (flip the ruler to the measuring side)

A blessing (hands together like giving a blessing) of duty and love (hand on heart as they sit down softly)

We got so many repetitions in with this! I told them it wasn’t about speed, but about timing it with the words of the song, and anyone not on the course had to sing extra loud to help guide them through in case they forgot something.

5. BUILD-A-FIGURE (WORLD)

[Idea and pictures thanks to Heidi L. Barber]

Every time we do good singing a phrase, a kid will get to come up and add something to the face. (AVAILABLE IN THE GOLD LIBRARY)

6. MIRROR ME

Be the leader and play "mirrors" with the children. Move your arms and legs slowly in different directions/poses and have the children mirror you with the same movements while singing. See if they can follow you exactly, like you're both moving as one, very slowly. Then they could play again with partners and each partner gets a turn to lead.

7. BUNDLE OF GAMES

Reveal the Picture: Cut the picture of raking leaves into pieces along the black

lines. Display on the board, face down. Have the kids sing a phrase then let a

student flip over one of the squares. Continue singing until all squares have been

turned over and the full picture revealed. Briefly talk about how the picture relates

to the song.

Color the Picture: Invite students up to color the picture for 10-15

seconds each as everyone sings.

Song Map: Display on the board and trace with

finger as singing. Let individual students come up and trace as singing.

Use with other melody map games - learn more here.

Heart Figures: Let each student hold a heart figure as singing and use it with

actions, tap the heart on their other hand to the beat, etc.
