1. SONG MOVEMENTS
[First idea thanks to Camille's Primary Ideas-see original post here]
Follow the proph... - Roll arms (like patty cake!)
...ET of prophet - clap
Repeat three times.
or Pat knees - Pat - Pat - Clap
and vice versa: Clap - pat - pat - pat
Don't go astray - cross your arms across/in front of your chest, making a big X then point out and to the side (astray).
Repeat the arm rolling and clap on the second syllable of proph – “ET” three more times.
He knows the way - point to heaven on "He" then take two hands (close together by face) and motion outwards like a slow, "WHAT?"
Sing the song a couple more times. You can also ask “who knows the way?” and “what ‘way’ is the song talking about?” and “what should we do so we don’t go astray?” and “what does ‘astray’ mean?” in between each repeat.
ANOTHER MOVEMENT VERSION
[Thanks to Connie Hard Swanger]
We do clapping in twos
Lap (twice)
Clap (twice)
Criss cross (out in front of you-twice)
High five (twice)
Repeat
4x for verse / 4x for chorus
If your senior primary is small enough, have them line up and singing, go by & partner with kids on the cross cross & high five parts. For junior simplify to only the first 2 over & over while singing.
VARIATION: MARCHING OR STAND IN PLACE AND MOVE THE PROPHET STICK
WHAT YOU NEED:
Prophets sticks - see post description of how to play and source links here.
Let kids move around and follow the child with the prophet stick of the verse OR, march in place and kids follow the prophet stick movement of the child who has the prophet verse.
FREE PROPHET LDS CHURCH PICTURE CARDS HERE AT LDS.ORG.
You can also use the pictures to play a MEMORY MATCH UP game.

3. PAPER CUP PLAY
WHAT YOU NEED:
Paper Cup for each child
HOW TO USE:
(Hold cup bottom up)
Pat - tap - pat - tap (on one side for 8 counts then switch hands and do it on the other side) - through "...don't go astray."
FREEZE
Let's add on...
Show the kids the GRAB/POP - switch the hand holding the cup then "pop" - pat the top of the cup with the other hand. Have them do it with you a few times.
Then show the kids the SIDE TAP - have kids follow you as you tap the side of the cup a few times.
Then have the kids follow you with POP-TAP-POP.
Next Pattern to learn.
Grab - pop - tap side of cup - pop. Switch and repeat.
Practice the full pattern a couple times.
(I would sing while practicing so the kids also get practice singing the song. Just sing it slower while you practice the movement. Then you can speed it up after you've practiced the movement).
PUT IT ALL TOGETHER:
Do the PAT-POP pattern (2x) then switch to the GRAB-POP-TAP-POP pattern then grab/switch hands/legs and repeat. SEE SAMPLE VIDEO BELOW STARTING AT 11:45.
For Jr. Primary - simplify the pattern to something more basic, like just tapping the top of the cup or tap (knee)-pop and just repeat that as singing. For more variation, have the kids just tap the top of the cup but then tap different places or directions (ex: tap on the right side, tap on the left side, tap with cup down low, etc.).
4. SONG SCROLLS
WHAT YOU NEED:
Song Scrolls - get the printable HERE or make your own.
Popsicle Sticks & Brown tape or
Paint sticks
Write the name of each prophet on the scrolls
[Homemade scroll picture credit to Ericka W. Skinner]
INCLUDE WOMEN SCRIPTURE HEROS AS WELL...
5. PROPHET MASKS
This one may just re-energize your kiddos if you need to review or just motivation to get them to sing as strong as the prophets were!..."The prophets were strong, faithful people. Let's emulate them in our singing..."
Use prophet masks as singing. Get masks HERE (external site).
Other Game Ideas:
- Arrange the masks in order of the song (if singing more than one verse).
- Move the mask up and down to the beat as singing.
- Wear the mask and encourage each child to stand when their prophet is sung about.
- Pass the prophet (like eraser pass but using the masks to pass) - with so many prophets being passed, this is a lot more active than the kids just getting to pass something once only then done. Call out "FREEZE" at random times during the song and ask the child with the prophet's verse you are singing to say/sing out the next couple of words.

6. PROPHET SPOONS
Make prophet spoons.
- Let kids hold and move up and down to the beat as singing.
- Use the spoons along with traditional hand movement patterns - move the prophet
as you otherwise would just your hands.
- Make up rhythm patterns to tap the prophet spoon in your palm (or use a prophet spoon and a plain spoon) and add some additional beat/rhythm movement fun with patterns you devise!

7. ASL
Use ASL as singing.
8. MAORI STICK ACTIVITY
[Idea credit Sharla Dance]
WHAT YOU NEED:
PVC Pipe Sticks
HOW TO PLAY: see video --->
9. FOLLOW THE PROPHET BLOCKS
WHAT YOU NEED:
Prophet blocks - get them HERE
HOW TO USE:
Let the kids stack the blocks as singing in the right order according to each verse.
10. PROPHET MATCH
WHAT YOU NEED:
Prophet Posters & Figures Match printable - get them HERE.
HOW TO USE:
Match the figures to the prophet.*
Do one or two prophets at a time or several.
*Option 1: Put the prophet's poster on the board (ex: Adam).
Place the 4 Adam figures (people crowd, number 1, plant/flowers, God's Plan Arrow) around the room. Choose 4 students to find one figure each and bring to the board as everyone sings the song. Repeat the verse as needed. Sing the song again and place each symbol, as it fits the words, on/around Adam poster.
*Option 2: Have 3 kiddos come to the front. Have one child hide the symbol that goes with the first words to the song (i.e. number 1).
The 2nd child will be blindfolded and will find the hidden pic and the 3rd child is their guide. He/she will instruct the seeker and lead them to the hidden (number one) picture. The blind child will have to listen carefully to the guide to get to their destination, just as we have to listen to the Prophet as he instructs and guides us to our Eternal home.
Once the picture is found, it will be placed on the Adam poster and sings the words that go along with the picture. Continue the game with the next 3 children and next phrase and picture to be found until you've done the whole verse and placed all 4 symbol pictures (crowd, number one, green plant/flowers, and God's way arrow) around Adam.
11. PROPHET OSTINATOS
WHAT YOU NEED:
Rhythm instruments for the kids
HOW TO PLAY:
Option 1 - "follow, follow, always!"
Have the kids repeat with you and tap with 2 fingers on their palms as they say, "titi titi ta ta" several times. Then replace the rhythm syllables with the words: "follow - follow- always."
(see the rhythm for this in the picture below).
Divide the primary in half. Have 1/2 sing the song while the other half taps and chants, "titi titi ta ta" then follow, follow, always." Switch.
Repeat but let the kids use rhythm instruments as singing:
a. Same as above with divide class and switch.
b. Everyone sings the words of the song but TAPS the ostinato rhythm of follow-follow-always.
Note: For Jr. Primary this will probably be too difficult so you may just need to let them tap to the beat - alternate between quarter notes beat and eighth notes beat (subdivision of the beat).
Option 2 - as above but with this new ostinato pattern (for Sr. Primary only - challenge)
This rhythm is a bit trickier as it uses rhythm patterns on the weak beats - beats 2 & 4 instead of
the strong beats - beats 1 & 3).
Have kids practice saying and tapping the rhythm lots before adding together with the words.
Kids should say "rest" in their heads and show the rest with their palms coming up-like saying "what"- on the beats of silence/rest.
For a Senior Primary SUPER CHALLENGE, divide the class into 3 sections - 1 group singing the words to the song, 1 group chanting and tapping, "follow, follow, always" and another tapping the pattern below as they say the rhythm syllables (rest titi rest ta) or words.
