Key Doctrines, Principles & Concepts

  • If we faithfully use the gifts and abilities the Lord has given us, then we can fulfill our divine potential and receive eternal life (see Matthew 25:19–21).
  • The Lord will bless us if we faithfully use the gifts and abilities He has given us, regardless of how many we have or what they may be (see Matthew 25:22–23).
  • If we do not develop and use our spiritual gifts for good, then we will lose them (see Matthew 25:24–29).

We All Have Different Talents Star Craft Activity

WHAT YOU NEED:

Crayons

Papers with a Star Drawn on Each

Give kids crayons and a piece of paper on which you have drawn

a star. Let them color their stars. When all the children are finished

coloring, have them display their stars. Read D&C 46:11-12: “For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God. To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.” Sing the first verse of “Every Star Is Different” (Children’s Songbook, p. 142). Help the kids understand that just as their stars are all different, they are all different because they have different talents and abilities. Remind the children that talents are blessings from Heavenly Father and we can use our talents to bless one another.

Lesson of the Frisbee

[Idea credit: Sermons4kids.com]

Show a frisbee. Ask, "Do you know what this is? Yep, it's a Frisbee. I want you to pretend for a moment that you don't know what it is and that you've never seen one before. You might think this was a dinner plate... or a hat... or maybe even a tool for digging in the sand. It could be just about anything, but it isn't. It is a Frisbee and the person who created the Frisbee created it for a purpose. The purpose of a Frisbee is to fly!

The Frisbee isn't very impressive to look at, is it? In a world full of high-tech electronic toys, it is pretty low on the totem pole. But boy, can it fly!

Sometimes you and I may look at the talents that God has given to others and think that God hasn't given us very much talent. We might even be tempted to hide our talent. But when we develop and use our talents to be all that God intended for us to be... boy, can we fly!"

Now, enjoy playing frisbee -- pass the frisbee to each other and when a person catches it, have them name a talent they have and how they can use to to bless the lives of others.
