Marriage Feast Flip

WHAT YOU NEED:

The Marriage Feast Play Mat Folder Game (available in the Marriage Feast bundle or Parable Mega Bundle)

Wedding Feast Flip: Put together the parable flip mat page. As you read and discuss the parable, let your kids flip the tabs to reveal who each character in the parable is.

Who could some of the people be that weren't allowed into the feast?

  • Those that murdered servants - worst sinners (murderers, rapist, those that actively fight against God's church)
  •  Those that went to their other places - those who reject the gospel and those that think they had better things to do and want to live how feels good to them.
  • Those that "made light if it" and don't have their "wedding garments"  - members who profess to be a disciple of Jesus but don't really live their religion.

An invitation from a king was tantamount to a command; to refuse his invitation was to reject the king and his authority. Through this parable the Savior taught that, as invited guests, the Jewish leaders were refusing to partake of the feast offered them by God. Several attitudes indicated that the guests were rejecting the king: refusing outright to come (see Matthew 22:3); feeling that what they wanted to do was more important than responding to the king’s invitation (see verse 5); and rejecting the king’s servants (see verse 6). Each of these attitudes, evident also in today’s world, indicates unworthiness to enter into God’s kingdom.

Are You A Hearer or a Doer?

WHAT YOU NEED:

The Marriage Feast Play Mat Folder Game (available in the Marriage Feast bundle)

Cut out the hearer and doer circle cards. As you read each situation on the play mat page, let your child place a "hearer" or "doer" card over it. Read James 1:22 and Matt 7:21-23. Ask your kids if they (or you) have any situations in your life similar to the ones you are reading and discuss how you can become a better "doer of the word."

Vacation Time...Or Not?

WHAT YOU NEED, PART A:

Several pictures (digital is fine) to show of AMAZING vacation places and activities.

HOW TO PLAY, PART A

Show the kids the vacation pictures and tell them about all these amazing things they are going to get to do...

Now ask the kids if they would like to go on the vacation. Chances are they will say yes but, ask them to either pretend like they don't want to and they refuse to come OR, tell them to imagine now that you offer this vacation to someone and they turn it down. "Can you imagine that?" Well, in this parable that Jesus taught, that's exactly what most of the people do, except it's with an invitation to the King's Son's wedding feast. They refuse to come!

Read the parable or let the kids watch the parable sound story video.

(Use the parable play mat page for additional discussion on who each of the characters in the story represents).

After your read the parable, point out how sad it is that many turned away from the Lord's feast. Ask them how the parable of the great supper applies to us? What excuses do we make for not feasting at the Lord’s table—for example, not reading the scriptures or going to the temple or being kind to our family or getting involved in things we shouldn't? How can we demonstrate our acceptance of the Lord’s invitation to the feast?

WHAT  YOU NEED, Part B

Vacation Trip items (travel ticket, ID/wallet, plane ticket, 2 suitcases or bags, sunglasses and a hat)

Are You Prepared? vacation write-in printable

Give one child nothing, another the sunglasses and a hat, another a suitcase, and another a suitcase(w/ID and ticket). NOTE: You can use fake things to represent the items that would be taken on a trip, if needed.

HOW TO PLAY, PART B:

Tell the kids you want them to try to figure out what the morale of this activity is.

Tell them it's time for vacation and that you are going to be the ticket taker/checker at the airport.

Call up the child that you gave nothing to check-in for their flight. Ask why they don't have shoes on? Ask where their suitcase is. Ask for their ticket and id. Tell them they cannot go on their vacation because they aren't prepared and have that child sit down. ("I'm so sorry. You can't go on your vacation because you aren't prepared.")

  • Repeat with the child that you gave just the sunglasses and hat to.
  • Repeat with the child that you gave the suitcase ("Oh, you were sort of prepared... You got your suitcase full of all the things you need to go on vacation...sun tan lotion, clothes, food, camera...but you forgot two of the most important things, your ID and plane ticket...").
  • Repeat with the child that has the suitcase an wallet WITH ID and ticket. ("Congrats! You have your trip items, money, ID and plane ticket. You are prepared. Welcome to the flight and enjoy your vacation!").

Morale of the Activity : Our Heavenly Father expects us to prepare for and live worthy of His promised blessings.

Matthew 22:1–3, 11–14  Here was a man who came into the wedding feast, and when the time came the king or the master saw that he didn’t have a wedding garment on. He had ignored the importance of it, apparently. He had come in, not prepared, expecting to participate. He had come to the feast—they had all been bidden to the feast, but I assume that they were supposed to know that only those would be admitted who were properly clothed, and this man was amazed when the question was asked him why he was there in that condition.

The world seems to think that they can come whenever they are ready. Our Father's children do not understand that there is some preparation to be made. The adversary has so deceived them as to make them believe that no preparation is necessary, anything will do, anything goes, but in the message the Savior gave in this parable we learn that there must be some preparation, and without that preparation no one will be permitted to partake of the more precious gifts of our Heavenly Father. (George Albert Smith)

Ask your kids what things they need to prepare and do to be admitted to the wedding feast (i.e. heaven)? Let them write items on the "Are You Prepared?" activity page.
