1. ACTION WORDS

WHAT YOU NEED (optional):

Action Word Strips & Action Picture Circles

HOW TO PLAY:

Ask the kids -  "As I sing the song through for you, see if you can find all the action words (all the things the song is telling you to do)." As you sing through the song, emphasize the action words just a bit more. Take answers. Repeat a couple more times as needed till the kids get all the action words. As they do, place the word strips up on the board.

For Sr. Primary - Repeat and and have the kids stand on each action word (verb):

seek

know

search

go

keep

Repeat and have the kids make up an action (or assign an action-put the action picture circles up on the board) to each of the keywords in the list above. Repeat and invite a few students up to be the leaders.

3. KEYWORDS FILL-IN-THE-BLANK

[Idea credit: kamisprimarymusicideas]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Prep - Write on the board as shown below

Tell the kids to listen for the key words as you sing the song and see if they can figure out what they are. After singing the song, ask if anyone can come up to the board and write out one of the words (or just say the word and you write it in). Repeat the song until the kids can fill out all the words then sing through once more to check their answers.

t _ _ _ _ (truth)

s _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (scriptures)

p _ _ _ _ _ (prayer)

o _ _ _ (obey)

p _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (prophets)

c _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (commandments)

4. WORD SEARCH

[Idea and photo thanks to Darby W. Dunn]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Giant Poster Board Word Search or just write on the board before singing time

HOW TO PLAY (for Sr. Primary):

Invite individual kids up to come and find a word from the song and circle the word they find. Suggestion: Do phrase-by-phrase and tell the child the keyword they are searching for. (Ex: SEAK, EARLY)

5. I SPY MAGNIFYING GLASS SEEK & FIND GAME

[Idea credit: Nancy S. Morris]

WHAT YOU NEED:

2 magnifying glasses

I Spy "Seek the Lord Early" Poster - 2 options for printing and playing (see below)

Red crayon or marker

HOW TO PLAY:

Option 1: Print the I Spy page on a regular 8.5x 11

Invite one student up at a time to use the magnifying glass and find a symbol for the song phrase on the I Spy page.

Ex: I'll seek the Lord early while in my youth - child praying

And He will help me to know the truth - light bulb

Repeat the phrase 3x's to give the child seeking time to find. Once they find the object, let them x it out.

Option 2: Print the I Spy page as a large poster

Invite two students up at a time to look for the symbol(s) for each phrase. Repeat the phrase 3x's to give the child seeking time to find. Once they find the object(s), let them circle them.

6. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

[Idea and photos thanks to Karen May]

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Mission Impossible Envelopes - label free in the printable library (login/register below)
  • Papers with song "clues" written on them - Each envelope has a piece of paper with the "secret code" written on it. (Write with a white crayon then have the kids use another color crayon or marker to color over the paper till they can read the message).
  • Or for the clues, write with invisible ink and use black light to shine and reveal the clue.

HOW TO PLAY:

Hide the envelopes around the room ahead of time. During singing time, choose a child to be the detective and look for the envelope (use hot/cold with the kids singing louder/softer the closer or further away the "detective" gets). The child that is looking gets to wear a disguise like a secret agent/detective. Let the "detective" take out the clue and read. (Help junior primary with the reading. Clues can be things like having the kids fill in the blanks from a line in the song or figuring out the next line, answering a question about the song line, etc.).

7. SEEK TO UNDERSTAND PLAYDOUGH

[Idea and photos thanks to Stacy Peterson]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Few different colored balls of play dough*

*Make sure to check with parents about any gluten intolerance if using regular play dough

HOW TO PLAY:

While everyone sings, have a few kids come up (that were singing good) and have them create something with a play dough ball by the end of the song. Then let them share what it is. The song is short enough you will be able to repeat the activity and song several times.

Reinforce that we need to seek the Lord's Spirit & will (seek to understand what each child sculpted) and work towards better understanding by acting in faith and obedience (sculpting).
