Here's a Simple but Super Fun Singing Time Activity that will Motivate Your Kiddos to Sing Louder & More Enthusiastically Than Ever! . . .

If you are looking for a great way to get the kids excited to sing on (or around) Mother's Day,

these little ladies may very well do the trick!

This is the "Crying Mama". The idea is simple.  Cut out the eyes of the mom on the poster and as the kids sing really well, the mom is so overcome with emotion at the beautiful singing that she cries.

Here's what you do. Step 1: Cut out the eyes on the mama poster (just large enough for the spout to fit through the center of her eyes) and laminate so that she is waterproof.

Step 2: Cut out the lamination in the eye holes but be sure and not cut right down to the poster. Leave a little bit of the lamination around the edge. This will ensure that the paper is not right up to the edge, which could create running.

Step 3: Place the spray bottle through the mama's eyes and hold and spray.

HOW TO INTRODUCE...see below

How to Introduce:

Start out by asking the kids if they've ever seen their mom cry happy tears. Talk about how sometimes when moms (or we) feel the spirit or are very happy about something, they cry (or we cry).Tell the they want to make their mothers cry happy tears on Mother's Day with their beautiful singing.

As you work on different songs, the kids have to try to make the Mama cry.

This works like a charm. The kids sang with so much power and energy and seemed to learn the songs extra quick!

Feel free to invite other kids who are singing well to use the squirt bottle instead of only doing it yourself. Tell the kids to squeeze slowly so that they don't squire out but make the mama cry.

Simple. Easy. Low-Prep. And the kids love it!

Enjoy & Happy Singing!

IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS SHOULD NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF YOUR SONG-BASED/MUSIC-BASED ACTIVITIES. The primary focus should always be the songs and their messages.

Never use motivational, non-song based activities (such as "The Crying Mom,") as THE PRIMARY OR FOCUS ACTIVITY, nor when the kids are first trying to learn or do those song-based musical activities. Use them to motivate additional repetition, good singing and behavior.

During the song-based musical activity, IF the kids did it well, invite a child us as you repeat that activity (for the song phrase, line, verse, or song) and make the tears. This way you are getting in extra repetition through musical-engagement while using the mom crying poster as a secondary (and NOT primary) activity that can motivate the kids to even more fully engage in the song-based/music-based activities.
