We have many opportunities to learn the gospel of Jesus Christ. We can show that we have faith that the gospel is true by choosing the right each day. If we do, we will be like the wise man—building our lives upon the solid foundation of the gospel and preparing ourselves to live again with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Parable of the Wise & Foolish Builders Play Mat (available in the Wise & Foolish bundle)
Rock is an Old Testament term for God and foundation is a New Testament term for Christ used a number of times,
(1 Corinthians 3:11 - “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”)
Helaman 5:12
And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.
3 Ne 11:40
And whoso shall declare more or less than this, and establish it for my doctrine, the same cometh of evil, and is not built upon my rock; but he buildeth upon a sandy foundation, and the gates of hell stand open to receive such when the floods come and the winds beat upon them.

Option 1 - Rock Painting/Coloring: Have your children paint the rocks and then write "Jesus is my Rock" on their rocks.

WHAT YOU NEED:
Paper Cups
Paper
Markers and Colored Pencils
Drinking Straws
Scissors
Tape
A Rock that Fits Snuggly Inside the Paper Cup
PREP:
Draw your own face and hands patterns (or just draw right on the paper cup). Cut them out and tape them to the paper cups to make people figures as shown in the picture.
Cut pieces of paper into 2" x 3" pieces and write the following words on the pieces: Fearful, Unforgiving, Jealous, Foolish, Stubborn, etc.
Place the paper cup figures on a smooth surface at the end of a table. Place one of paper cup figure on top of the rock. Test to see that the other paper cup figure moves across the table when you use a straw to blow on the bottom of the cup.
HOW TO PLAY:
Tell your kids you will be demonstrating what is it like to have God as their foundation or to put our faith in other things. Show your children the cup figure that is on the rock. Tell them that this figure represents someone who trusts in God and builds their foundation on Him and the other figure represents someone who puts their faith in other things. Ask what some of those things might be. They may say things such as parents, friends, influencers, etc. (Use along with Wise & Foolish man folder game, which has additional idea cards). + PUT TOGETHER JESUS & IDOL FIGURESas you go through this lesson as well (gives additional examples of good/bad things to build on and teaches the contrast between building our lives and foundation on spiritual things vs. temporal things, being distracted away from Jesus or towards Him).
Read the following situations or make up your own and discuss the questions along with each situation:
Questions:
What is the person building their house on?
Are they living according to how they feel or how God feels?
Are they choosing to live according to God's words or the world's?
Ty is part of the "popular" crowd at school and he likes feeling "cool." Sometimes his group isn't very nice to other kids at school, and they even bully others.
April spends a lot of time on social media. She is always worried about posting, getting likes and followers, what others are saying about her, keeping up with the current news and gossip, etc. Her SM accounts are one of the most important things to her.
Janna's friend didn't come to her birthday party. Her friend said she was sorry she couldn't come but there was a concert she was going to that was a once in a lifetime opportunity. She felt bad and brought her friend a gift then went to the concert. Even after several weeks, Janna is still mad at her friend and can't let it go.
Jared works a lot. He's hardly home to spend time with his family. His work is his main priority. He wants to advance in his career so he continues to put in long hours, year after year.
At school there's a kid that sits alone and doesn't have any friends. Mark always feels like he should go over and sit by the kid and talk to them but he's worried about what the rest of the kids will think. More and more time goes by and the year ends and Mark never went and talked to the kid.
Bailee loves superstar J. She watches and reads everything she can about her. She tries to dress, act and be like her. There's no one else she'd rather be like. (Or use sports person or any "idol" whom kids look up).
Josh's little brother is so annoying to him. He takes his toys away, knocks over what he's building, and just bothers him all the time, it seems! Josh is so sick of it. He's mad a lot at his little brother. He does everything he can each day to avoid being around him.
Each time you read a situation have a child blow on the bottom of the cup figures using the straw. For each situation ask what it would be like to have their foundation in God or in something else. Read the suggested Bible verses. After a child has blown on the cup figure not on the rock, ask them to point out some of the words on the table that might describe the person in the situation and discuss in relation to the questions listed above.
