Inspiring great things from small beginnings - God uses small things for big purposes. God can use me. We are never too small to be important in God's eyes.
Big things have small beginnings -- "By small and simple things are great things brought to pass." (Alma 37:6)
The restored Church of Jesus Christ will grow from a small beginning to fill the whole earth.

Today I brought with me two things that some of you may not know what they are. See this seed? Does anyone know what it is? It's a mustards seed. See how tiny the mustard seed is? Mustard seeds are some of the smallest seeds. But even though they are really small, did you know mustard seed plants can grow really big - wild ones sometimes 10 or 15 feet even! (Read Matt 13:31-32) So, Jesus is comparing a mustard seed to the kingdom of heaven, which is His gospel. We'll talk more about that in a minute. But first, I have something else that's small that I want to show you. Look. Does anyone know what this is? This is called yeast. Look how teeny tiny the yeast is.
Yeast is something you use in baking. Do you know what happens when you take a tiny amount of yeast and mix it with water and flour, salt and little bit of sugar? The yeast spreads all through that mixture and produces dough that gives you big, soft, fluffy, delicious loaves of bread. Jesus said, "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened." That is what Jesus wants us to do. He wants us, as part of his kingdom, to change the world around us and make it better. You may be small, but like the mustard seed and the yeast, you are important in the kingdom of heaven.
Both the mustard seed and yeast are very small but Jesus used them to describe what the kingdom of heaven is like. Many things that begin small become large. Ask your child to name some things which start out small but grows big. For example, seeds are small but become big plants. People start as babies but grow to be adults. Balloons also start out small but gets bigger and bigger as they fill with air. That is like how Jesus's church will fill all the earth. And we are an important part of that. We can do small things to help the gospel fill the earth. This balloon is small and empty now but if we fill it with air, it will grow bigger and bigger until it's all filled. What small things can we do to help the gospel fill the earth, just like the mustard seed grows into a tall plant and just like the yeast made the mixture grow and grow? Can you name some things and help the balloon grow? (Blow up a balloon a little bit each time a child names something they can do to have faith and share the gospel).

Ex: In Jesus’s day, it was common for people to say something was like a mustard seed in order to suggest that it was very, very small = Mustard Seeds are small. Jesus church arose from humble beginnings, both in His day and in
the latter days.
Ex: The pod of seeds on a mustard plant holds thousands of seeds so one plant can give rise to hundreds more plants.

Read a mustard seed fact and let the kids plant a mustard seed (add to the soil).
