God gives eternal life to all who choose to make and keep sacred covenants with Him (see Matthew 20:1–10).

HOW TO USE:
Ask for two volunteers. Put a name tag on each. Hand the long-time member a big box and explain to the children that this long-time faithful member gets a “big box” of the wonderful gospel and love of Jesus Christ. Then ask the children what size box of Jesus’ love and life the recent convert should have. The long time member worked hard for lots of years to stay true and faithful and so they get eternal life. But the new convert just joined the church and has only been serving Jesus faithfully for a short time. Hand them the same size box and explain how even new believers get the same huge amount of God’s love and life in Jesus Christ, and that if they live faithfully, they too can have eternal life.

In a general sense, “the first” are the privileged, prestigious, and selfish who get ahead in this life while defying God’s commandments. But they will receive condemnation in the life to come. “The last,” though rejected by the world, will receive a great reward in heaven.(1)
