TOPICS

Luke 22:39–46

Jesus suffered for me because He loves me. (YOUNGER PRIMARY)

In Gethsemane, Jesus Christ took upon Himself my sin and pain. (OLDER PRIMARY / FAMILY)

What would you be willing to give for someone you love very, very much? Our Savior, Jesus Christ, loves us so much that He gave His own life for us. Jesus suffered and died to save us from death and our sins. This loving act is called the Atonement. Because of the Atonement, we can repent of our sins, be forgiven, and become clean and pure, as Jesus is.

Sing together some of your favorite hymns or children’s songs about the Savior.

Use any of the additional items pictured below while you read the scriptures about Jesus' suffering in Gethsemane.

TOPICS

Luke 22:41–43

I can pray when I need help. (YOUNGER PRIMARY)

* Jesus prayed for help in Gethsemane. I can pray for help when I need it.

Share stories of those that prayed in the scriptures with the Prayers & Trials in the Scriptures Card Match Game:

The Prayers in the Scriptures cards give examples of people from the scriptures who prayed for help

with different problems and the answers they received. Match the "Who Prayed" cards with the

"What happened" cards. Use the scripture references beside each picture to help you.

(The Trials cards give examples of people in the scriptures and the trials they experienced. Match the scripture

character card with the trial description card. Talk about how the people in these stories responded

to their trials and how God helped them in their trials).

* Words kids can use in prayer - grab the Kids Prayer Mobile Craft in the printables library)

Plus, check out all my other prayer resources (see gallery below) and learn more about each item HERE.

Luke 22:31–32

Pray in Faith (FAMILY)

How might Peter have felt to know that Jesus had prayed for him and his faith? Who can we pray for, “that [their] faith fail not”? (verse 32).

See more about all these items (pictured below) in the PRAYERS POST

TOPICS

Luke 22:39–44

I can follow Jesus’s example by being obedient to Heavenly Father. (OLDER PRIMARY)

Not my will, but thine be done. (FAMILY)

Object Lesson - to help children and adults think about the choices that we make.

Use house plans, a recipe, a dress pattern, etc., as an example of the importance of plans (i.e. God has a plan for us - we should follow His plan, His will)...compared with making it your way.

[Extension: Make it hands-on by letting the kids actually try to build or make without the directions. After a few minutes, stop and ask if they 'd like some help. If time, give them the instructions and build with the plans).

Help the children memorize the phrase “Not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke 22:42) and discuss what it means. What can we do to obey Heavenly Father’s will? Do we choose God’s will or what we want ourselves? Help the children identify some reasons it is sometimes hard to do what Heavenly Father wants. What blessings have we received by being obedient to Heavenly Father, even when it was hard?

Share experiences when you learned to say, “Not my will, but thine, be done.”

Share experiences of obedience in the scriptures with the Obedience in the Scriptures folder game.

Object Lesson - By obeying God's will you come closer to God.

What You Need: balloon, matches, clear cup

Blow up the balloon. Light some matches and blow them out then stick them in the cup. Place and hold the balloon on top of the glass. Tell the kids the glass is us, the Balloon is God & His will, and the matches are us doing God's will. Help the kids notice the balloon gets sucked into the glass (as we obey God's will, we come closer to Him). Pick he balloon up and point out how the cup is stuck to the balloon.  (When we accept and follow God's will, wherever we may go, God will be with us. And wherever God moves, we move with Him).

TOPICS

Luke 22:50–51

Jesus loved His enemies.

* Sing "Kindness Begins with Me" and "Love One Another" as you use the Ways to Show Love/Be Kind hearts - choose a heart and discuss what kindness, or lack of kindness, is shown in the picture.

* Use the "Love Thine Enemies" bundle - teaches kids how Jesus showed love to His enemies along with a fun color, cut-and-paste activity on ways we can love our enemies.

See this wonderful post and this post on how Jesus loved His enemies and what this means for us.

TOPICS

John 18:37–38

What is truth? (FAMILY)

How would we answer Pilate’s question “What is truth?” (verse 38).

Let kids fill in the "What Is Truth?" activity page - available in the CFM 2023 Kids Activity Book along with reading/listening to (hymn) these resources:

  • John 8:32 - And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
  • Doctrine and Covenants 84:45 - For the word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is light, and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

T-R-U-T-H Song for Kids

(Tune: Bingo)

What is truth, I'd like to know, it's much more than opinion, oh!

T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH,

Much more than opinion, oh!

Truth is not what one thinks,

personal truth, no such think, oh!

T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH,

it's more than personal, oh!

Truth is not just a belief,

it's absolute, unchanging, oh!

T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH,

Not just a belief, oh1

Truth is light, truth is fact,

for all people, places, and time, oh!

T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH,

everlasting truth, oh!

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, oh!

T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH, T-R-U-TH,

Jesus is the Truth, oh!
