OR MOVEMENT PATTERN 2

I love to see the temple

Swish on left - tap - tap - change hands

I'm going there someday

Swish on right - tap - tap - change hands

Continue pattern for rest of song.

ADD A CHALLENGE (Sr. Primary): PARTNER PLAY

Using the same pattern...

Have the kids get a partner.

When they change hands, instead of switching the scarf in their hands, have them switch with their partner.

EGG SHAKER & PENCIL MOVEMENT

Start with letting the kids shake the egg shaker and tap the pencil   on the egg for a few seconds then tell them to follow you:

Say and Do (3rd time start singing, "I" on the last tap):

PAT - PAT - PAT (pat egg on leg) - TAP - TAP - TAP (tap egg w/pencil)

PAT - PAT - PAT - TAP - TAP - TAP

PAT - PAT - PAT - TAP - TAP - TAP

                                                    I

PAT - PAT - PAT - TAP - TAP - TAP

Love to see the   temple         I'm

PAT - PAT - PAT -      TAP - TAP - TAP

going  there some   day               to

and so on...

[You can pause after each phrase and say something very brief that relates to the phrase the kids just sang, then continue on].

ADD A CHALLENGE:

SWITCH HANDS (put egg in the opposite hand and tap with the pencil in the opposite hand you just used).

2. PATH TO THE TEMPLE CRACK THE CODE PUZZLE

[Idea thanks to xxx]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Option 1 (good if kids don't know the song well yet): Place all pieces on the board ahead of time. Everyone sings as you point to each image along the path. Repeat and invite another child to come up and point to each item on the path as everyone sings.

Option 2: Hang the temple picture up on the board. Have the pieces of the path to the temple on the board but not in order and not in a path. As the kids sing, invite one child up at a time to pick a piece and build the path. Repeat as needed till the path is built. Sing and point to each symbol on the path to check if it's in the correct order or not.

3. PICTURE SONG ORDER

WHAT YOU NEED:

Song Picture Cards [Suggestion: Download. Copy & paste and make each image a full page].

HOW TO USE:

Display on the board out of order. Let a student or two come and arrange in the correct order as everyone sings. Repeat verse to check the order then do the same thing with the next verse. Repeat and let other students rearrange.

Following a similar process, let one student color a square as everyone sings. Repeat till all squares have been colored.

4. TEMPLE CRACK-THE-COLOR CODE

WHAT YOU NEED:

Melody Map - get on Etsy or in the Gold Library

HOW TO USE:

Display the code pages. Ask students to see what they notice as you touch and sing. Touch and sing then take kids answers about what they noticed

Ask them what each of the colors stand for.

Note: You don't have to have the kids do every color while going through the verse only one time. You can do one color at a time per verse or repetition and repeat as needed.

Blue = I / I'm / I'll (anything that deals with the first person)

Gold/Yellow = things that are holy (Holy Spirit, holy place, house of God, God, truth, child of God, family, forever, sacred)

Orange = Verbs / Actions

There are a variety of games you can play with the melody maps, like adding actions to certain keywords and having the kids sing and do the actions to those keywords while you sing the rest and vice versa, only singing in your head while doing the actions as you point to the melody map, singing all the words out loud except a certain color, and more.

Make up games other than just point and sing appropriate to your primary.

5. TEMPLE PUZZLES

WHAT YOU NEED:

Temple Puzzle - get a couple BIG pictures of temples and cut out into puzzle pieces.

Get a free CEDAR CITY TEMPLE picture in the library (under Kids Zone)

HOW TO USE:

Let kids choose pieces as everyone sings and help put the puzzle together as everyone sings. [Free bonus puzzle available

in the "I Love to See the Temple" bundle (on Etsy or in the Gold Library) and a beautiful image of the Cedar City temple pdf - print large as shown in the picture below - ithe Gold Library

6. BUILD A TEMPLE

[Idea credit thanks to Nikki Badders]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Option 1: Legos or sugar cubes or white play dough (or boxes with pieces of

temple pics on the front)

Option 2: Build a temple (paper version)* - very helpful when learning the verses

*Available in the "I Love to See the Temple" bundle ON ETSY or in the Gold Library

HOW TO PLAY:

Option 1: Let students take turns building a temple as everyone sings.

Option 2: As you sing, build the temple with the pages. Repeat and point and sing.

Repeat and let a couple students at a time come re-build the temple as everyone sings.

Repeat to check if the temple was built correctly.

7. TEMPLE MATCHING

WHAT YOU NEED:

Temple Matching Pictures (15 temples)

Have fun singing I Love to See the Temple over and over with this fun Temple Match game! Plus, click link below for another interesting variant game option of playing Go Fish!!

HOW TO PLAY:

See the post HERE for printable and instructions.

8. ASL

There are several videos by the church you can access on their website.

Or, here is one by a lady in primary showing the kids.

Or HERE for another person's simplified version.

And HERE is another version.

9. TEMPLE TRIP

WHAT YOU NEED:

Option 1: Big Cardboard Temple (for kids to hide behind) - see picture below

Option 2: Temple Trip "Fly" to Each Destination

Pictures of 10 or so temples from around the world

Airplane figure

HOW TO PLAY:

PREP:

Option 1: Make the cardboard temple

[Idea thanks to Abbey Heck Button]

Option 2: Add temple pictures around board and airplane figure. Add lines to connect each temple, making an airplane route.

[Idea thanks to Wendy Olsen Buchanan]

*Move the airplane to one temple and sing. Repeat until the airplane has gone to each temple.

Tell the kids they are going on an airplane ride. You are the pilot and the pianist is your co-pilot. "Fly*" to each destination. While en-route, sing ILTSTT in a way that fits that destination. For example, when you visit the Hawaii temple, sing while doing the hula. At each destination, briefly add one thing about the temple (covenants and how families can be sealed forever, etc) or let a child share how they feel about the temple).

Here is a list of suggested temples with movement ideas.  If you have more ideas, please share (support@ldsprimaryprintables.com) and I'll add them to this list).

*Tokyo, Japan-- tap the rhythm with chopsticks (or pencils or rhythm sticks)

*Kona, Hawaii-- dance the hula while singing

*Sydney Australia-- hop like a kangaroo while singing

*Nauvoo, Illinois-- have someone dress as a pioneer and lead the kids or just print out a pioneer figure and put it on a stick and let them lead with that.

*Beunos Aires, Argentina-- learn the spanish word for temple (templo), and sing that word in spanish (everything else in English)

*Johannesburg, South Africa-- have someone balance a basket on their head and walk back and forth across the room. When the basket is on the head, we sing. When it falls off, we hum.

*Orlando, Florida-- use an alligator mouth to show what volume to sing (SEE MY CRESCENDO CROCODILE POST HERE)-- the wider the mouth opens, the stronger we sing, never louder than lovely of course! The more closed it is, the quieter we sing.

*Anchorage, Alaska-- sing Once There Was a Snowman (just to give us a break from ILTSTT)

10. TEMPLE 4 CORNERS

WHAT YOU NEED:

4 pictures of Different Temples - hang in 4 different places in the room

HOW TO PLAY:

Let kids walk around the room while singing a verse. By the end of the song, they should be at one of the 4 temples. Call out one of the temples and the kids at that temple sing a phrase as they go back to their seats. Continue until all 4 areas have sung and are back in their seats. Then repeat again for the next verse.

11. INSIDE THE TEMPLE

[Ideas thanks to Leighann P. Nicolaysen]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Pictures of the Insides of Temples (6-8 or more)

HOW TO PLAY:

Ask the kids, "Did you know what your classroom at school would look like? Were you a little nervous at first when you didn't know? Then talked about how you might feel the same way about the temple. But that it's a beautiful and safe place where we can feel Heavenly Father's spirit...

You can either pass the pictures around as the kids sing the song or, you can place the pictures around the room and tap kids who are singing well to go and find a picture and bring it back to the front and either stand and hold it or tape on the board. Keep singing the song until all the pictures have been found or passed around to everyone.

Or Play a Matching/Memory Game (with 2 pictures of each room).

12. SONG STORY / STORY SONG

There is a good story in The Friend about Olga (Aug 2021) that talks about her temple experience which you can use to interject singing the song throughout the story.

Or a shorter one here with a coloring page: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/friend/2021/08/taye-visits-the-temple?lang=eng

If you don't know what a song story is, check out my post here.

13. SONG ACTIONS

Verse 1

I love to see the temple: Cross arms over chest

I’m going there someday: Draw arms up so they are overhead

To feel the Holy Spirit: cross hands over heart

To listen: cup hands around ears

And to Pray: Fold arms

For the temple is a house of God: Hands in front with fingers touching, making a steeple

A place of love and beauty: Cross arms over chest

I’ll prepare myself: Thumbs to chest (proudly)

While I am young: raise one hand in the air, palm down like you’re measuring. As you sing, lower your hand, making a “stair” motion.

This is my sacred duty: Point finger of right hand and shake in time.

Verse 2

I love to see the temple: Cross arms over chest

I’ll go inside someday: Hands in front with fingers touching, making a steeple, then opening hands like doors

I’ll covenant with my Father, I’ll promise to obey: Right hand over heart

For the temple is a holy place: Hands in front with fingers touching, making a steeple

Where we are sealed together: Clasp hands together

As a child of God, I’ve learned this truth: Tap forehead with index finger.

A family is forever: Put hands together to make a circle with thumbs together and fingers touching.

THAT'S IT FOR NOW. HAPPY SINGING!
