12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS SYMBOLS
1st Day: ANGELS
"Glorious beings shout His praise, from Heaven to earth joyous tidings they raise."
I bring you good tidings of great joy. … For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
(Luke 2:10–11)
2nd Day: BELLS
“Lost sheep are found by the sound of the bell, we’re never lost to Him, a joyous noel.”
Like a cowbell, free roaming sheep wear bells making them easier to locate should they wander off. In the same way, bells represent that Jesus found us when we were lost. He saved us from sin.
What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.
(Matthew 18:12-14)
3rd Day: STAR
“A heavenly sign shown to all on that night, a shining hope guiding us with His light.”
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 10. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
(Matthew 2: 9-10)
4th Day: CANDLES/CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
“A candle burns bright so we will not stray, He’s our Savior, our Christ and He lights the way.”
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
(Matthew 5:14-16)
5th Day: EVERGREEN
“Evergreen trees point to God high above, reminding His children of Christ’s endless love.”
Even before Christ’s birth, trees that stayed green all year long carried special meaning for people. A green, thriving tree in the dead of winter reminded people of hope and new life. Because of Jesus Christ, we can have everlasting life.
Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.
(2 Nephi 31:19–20)
6th Day: HOLLY
"The crown of thorns that drew blood red, was placed upon the Savior's head."
And the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe. And said, Hail, King of the Jews!
(John 19:2-3)
7th Day: CANDY CANE
“A shepherd’s crook used to guide his lambs, we serve each other with helping hands.”
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. (Luke 2:8)
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. (John 10:14)
