1. SONG VISUALS

WHAT YOU NEED:

My Heavenly Father Loves Me 3D Earth Flipbook Craft

HOW TO USE:

For primary singing time, I wouldn't put the flipbook together. I'd keep the hearts separate and use as an arrange the picture order or matching and other song visual games.

I would also print the hearts at a bigger size for better group visibilty.

You can also print as is and make a flipbook and let a child come hold and flip through as singing.

2. ERASE-A-WORD

Sr. Primary kids erase words that don’t belong until there are only the right song words left.

Write up several words from the song in sets on the board (see picture below for example word sets).

Give the eraser to one child. As everyone sings, they come up and erase a word on the board that isn't in the song. Once finished erasing, sing the song again to check for accuracy.

3. THIS OR THAT?

WHAT YOU NEED:

Song Visuals (Use circle song images from activity #1 plus add in other non-song images in a heart so they are the same as the actual song visuals - google online, see suggested list below).

For each song phrase, put up the corresponding pictures. Sing the phrase and let kids figure out which image matches the song phrase.

1. Whenever I hear the song of a bird

Or look at the blue, blue sky,

Whenever I feel the rain on my face

Or the wind as it rushes by,

Whenever I touch a velvet rose

Or walk by our lilac tree,

I’m glad that I live in this beautiful world

Heav’nly Father created for me.

2. He gave me my eyes that I might see

The color of butterfly wings.

He gave me my ears that I might hear

The magical sound of things.

He gave me my life, my mind, my heart:

I thank him rev’rently

For all his creations, of which I’m a part.

Yes, I know Heav’nly Father loves me.

4. FIVE SENSES

Time to use our senses as we learn about recognizing gifts from our loving Heavenly Father.

[Variation Idea credit: Janel Case]

WHAT YOU NEED:

5 senses visuals - use heart song visuals from activity #1

Ask the kids to listen as you sing a song and see if they can figure out how many senses (parts of body that help us experience things) this song includes. Sing the song.

Put up 4 of the 5 Senses visuals across the top of the board.

Ask the kids to figure out what we "HEAR" in the song. Everyone sing the song.

Take answers and add the picture hearts (from Activity #1) under each category, one category at a time.

Hear – bird song heart (vs 1); eyes butterfly heart (vs 2)

See – rain heart (vs 1), wind heart (vs 1); eyes butterfly heart (vs 2)

Touch – rose heart (vs 1), lilacs heart (vs 1); ears heart (vs 2), praying hands (vs 2)

Smell – rain, rose, lilac tree

Other hearts (gave me my life - hands with leaves heart / my heart - person body heart)

Ask the kids what sense is missing. (Taste) What are some ways that taste is a blessing to you? How can we taste blessings? (Good food & liquids -- ex: water-body needs water-relate to spiritual water -Jesus is our living water).

What other ways does Heavenly Father bless us through our senses?

5. AIR SHAPES PAINTING & DRAW-A-SCENE

Option 1: Let kids draw each song phrase shape in the air as they sing. (Display the visuals on the board to help kids get an idea of what they can draw for those words and so they have a visual reference).

Option 2: Invite one child at a time to come draw one of the shapes on the board as everyone sings.

6. DANCING SCARVES OR WANDS

WHAT YOU NEED:

Dancing Scarves or Ribbon

Give each child a scarf or wand and move as singing.

7. HAND BELLS

Visit the post HERE for a free handbell chart printable (NOTE: you will need to sign up for Janel's free library to access).

Have 8 kids come up and each will ring on their specific color. Look for great singers to come up next! This is a great way to work through the song 3-4 times until all (or most) of the kids have had a turn.
