1. DRAW WHAT YOU ARE THANKFUL FOR OR COLOR THE NUMBERS

WHAT YOU NEED:

Chalk or dry erase marker

Number Song Coloring Pages

HOW TO PLAY:

Assign a few kids a number and have them draw what their number talks about in the song:

One for each blessed day.

Two, every breath I take.

Three for my family.

Four, all they mean to me.

Five, just to be alive.

Six for the earth and sky.

And seven for heaven,

Eight for the chance to grow;

Nine, heart and hands and soul.

Ten for the eyes to see All God has given me.

At church: Repeat the song a few times until the kids have finished drawing their number.

Then go through each picture as you sing each line.

For more repetition, sing a phrase then call on a child to name something else they are thankful for that's not in the song.

At home: Thanks, Heather for sharing this WONDERFUL numbers coloring document HERE (and also in my printables library) to have the kids color as they listen to the song. She also said she’s challenging her primary to listen to the song for 10 days before Thanksgiving and to color one picture each day as they listen at home.

2. TWO LESSON PLANS FROM COMPOSER SHAWNA EDWARDS

Composer Shawna Edwards has some great ideas for teaching her song in her post here.

3. SIMPLE SIGNS & ACTIONS

This song is perfect for adding in some simple sign language mixed with actions.

Use the ones suggested below or come up with your own.

1. One for each blessed day.  (Show 1 finger then sign "day").

Two, every breath I take. (Show 2 fingers then sign "breath").

Three for my family. (Show 3 fingers then sign "family"). - [family at 0:5, second sign in the video]

Four, all they mean to me. (Show 4 fingers then make a heart outline with fingers or put hand over heart).

Five, just to be alive. (Show 5 fingers then sign "alive").

Six for the earth and sky. (Show 6 fingers then sign "earth and sky").

And seven for heaven, (Show 6 fingers then sign "heaven").

For every good thing that I have comes from God. (sign "good" then point to self then sign "God").

Every day, every hour, (sign "everyday" then "hour").

There are blessings He sends (sign "blessings").

Without number or end (sign forever/endless

If I counted a hundred or a thousand, I’m sure (sign count 2x's)

There would still be more to be thankful for (sign "more" then "thankful" - at 0:19)

2. Eight for the chance to grow; (Show 8 fingers then sign "grow").

Nine, heart and hands and soul. (Show 9 fingers then touch heart to bring hand down palms up, then sign "soul" or just motion to self - forward and back towards self circle with hands).

Ten for the eyes to see (Show 10 fingers then sign "see").

All God has given me. (sign "God" then sign "give" then point to self).

I could go on and on (roll hands around each other).

Counting the whole day long. (sign "counting" 2x's)

I know He is with me, (cross hands over chest)

For every good thing that I have comes from God. (sign "good" then point to self then sign "God").

(rest same as above)

Every day, every hour,

There are blessings He sends

Without number or end.

If I counted a hundred or a thousand, I’m sure

There would still be more,

There would still be more and more to be thankful for.

[NOTE: If you make a video doing all the signs, and wouldn't mind sharing, please send me the link (support@ldsprimaryprintables) and I'll link to it. THANKS!!]

4. ENVELOP PICTURE ORDER

[This is a great activity when introducing the song, when you want the kids to hear you singing the whole song and for repetition].

WHAT  YOU NEED:

Small picture song visuals

Envelopes

Big picture song visuals

PREP WORK:

Cut out the pictures and place one set in each envelope (16 pictures per envelope).

Make enough for each class to have one.

(Even younger kids can do this activity, with the help of their teachers - just modify it that each student is given one picture and the teacher lays out the rest and tells the kids when to put their picture down.).

HOW TO PLAY:

Give each class an envelope. As you sing, the kids need to work on arranging the pictures in order of the song.* Repeat as needed then sing again to check.

*This can be done by having each child hold a couple of the pictures in order then have them hold up their pictures when they hear their part in the song, giving each child two numbers instead of one, or laying the pictures down on the floor in front of each class row. Or, if you are feeling daring, a third option is to divide the kids into small groups, with 13 kids in each group, and each child gets a picture then arrange themselves in order.

VARIATION: Have the teachers give each child in the primary a picture and have the kids hold up their picture when it comes in the song as everyone sings.

Use a bigger printed version of the pictures to do this up on the board or up in front of class: Choose 12 kids to come up front and give each one a picture. Have them arrange themselves in order as everyone sings.

ADDITIONAL GAME VARIATIONS

Option 1: Display the pictures on the board and gradually take 1 until they are all gone.

Option 2: Fix the Order - Rearrange out of order and let kids put in the right order. Repeat the song (of course!) to check.

Option 3: Place pictures around the room and have the kids turn towards the right picture for each phrase as they sing.

Option 4: Make 2 copies of each and use as a matching game.
