6. SEEK & FIND

[Idea thanks to Gwen Weiler]

I wrote out the verse we were working on onto a piece of cardboard, but I left several words blank throughout—9, to be exact. Then, I wrote out those missing words on 9 little pieces of paper (one each) and hid them around the room.

Then I read the children a scripture that gave them a clue on where to find the missing words.

So, here’s an example of what it looked like:

I had all nine scriptures marked with colored tags in my scriptures. I called on someone to come up and choose a scripture. (It would have taken way too much time to have to look them up as we went along.)

The kid pointed to one of my colored tags/marked scriptures and then I read out the scripture. For example, one scripture I marked was Rev 3:20, which says, “20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

That was the scripture-clue for the missing word I had taped to the door.

The kid would find the word (sometimes with help from the other kids), and then put it in its missing spot on my poster board.

If they didn’t immediately know where it went, we’d all sing the whole verse from the top to help “jog their memory.” It was super fun! We ran out of time before we were able to finish the last two words, but the kids were really getting it and singing along pretty good by then.

**My most favorite clue was a scripture I chose about “My son,” because I have a son in primary with me. He had the clue hidden in his pocket until the kids solved “the riddle.” He’s 5, so he was pretty stoked to participate in that way. (And kudos to him for not giving it away!!)**

Below are the scriptures and corresponding keywords that told the children where to find the hidden/missing words. I specifically tried to choose scriptures that were meaningful and would invite the Spirit into primary, but I had to get a little inventive on some of these. Would love to hear what scriptures you come up with if you choose to give this a try!

Hiding Places & “Clue” Scriptures

Door - Rev. 3:20

Table - 2 Corinthians 3:3

Piano - D&C 25:12

My Son - Alma 37:35

Chair - Luke 9:13-15

Teacher - Mosiah 23:14

Wall - Psalm 122:8

Scriptures - 2 Nephi 4:15

Plant - Alma 32:28 (I brought a little houseplant with me)

That's it. Enjoy, have fun, and happy singing!
