1. QUESTION/ANSWERS

[Idea thanks to Sharla Dance - see original post here]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Word Strips

Song Visuals

Draw boxes on board with letter clues (see picture)

Get in the He Sent His Son Bundle - ON ETSY or IN THE GOLD LIBRARY

HOW TO PLAY:

Tell the kids you brought some word pictures of the song they are going to sing and you need their help to put them in the correct boxes. Display the title boxes (how, he sent his son) and boxes drawn on the board as pictured below. [Ask the kids if they can figure out what the letters on the board in the boxes mean as you sing].

Hand out all the pictures to the kids as singing. Repeat the song again and have the kids come up and place the pictures in their correct boxes, according to the words of the song verse by verse.

Sing the verse through twice then stop and check the boxes on the board.

Keep singing and having the kids put the words up until all of the boxes are filled and in their proper place.

After all the boxes are up, sing the song and point to the different boxes.

2. PAPER PLATE MOVEMENT

[Idea thanks to Sharla Dance of teachingprimarymusic.com]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Paper plates for each child

HOW TO PLAY:

3. RING IN THE GOOD NEWS - BELLS ACTIVITY

WHAT YOU NEED:

Bell Set

Bell Poster

[Bell Poster thanks to singingmagic.blogspot.com]

Note: I have not checked this source for accuracy.

4. HEART PUZZLE

WHAT YOU NEED:

Heart Puzzle Song Set - great for lots of song repetition

Available in the He Sent His Son bundle - get on ETSY or IN GOLD LIBRARY

HOW TO PLAY:

Display the pieces around the room in a variety of places. As everyone sings, tap kids on the shoulder to go and get a piece and come to the front. Have all the kids with a puzzle piece try to find their match. Everyone should continue singing the song over and over until all matches have been made.

Then have everyone help the kids at the front arrange themselves in order of the song as singing. Again, repeat the song as many times as needed to help the kids put themselves in order.

Note: You can do this verse-by-verse or sing all the verses then repeat.

5. HE SENT HIS SON RIBBON WANDS

WHAT YOU NEED:

Ribbon Wands for each child

Optional: Ribbon wand movement posters and instructions HERE.

6. QUESTION/ANSWER PICTURE MATCH

[Idea & Picture credit: Camille Hill]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Pictures to match the song phrases (from lds.org or church library), OR in the He Sent His Son bundle.

HOW TO PLAY:

One the left side of the chalkboard write the questions/keywords all in order. On the other side of the chalkboard, put the picture of the answers but out of order. Gradually connect each question to the correct answer by drawing a line with chalk. Let the kids help you decide which pictures go to which words.

7. JESUS CONDUCTING

WHAT YOU NEED:

Jesus conducting stick

HOW TO USE:

Let kids come up and take turns conducting each song phrase with the Jesus conducting stick.

HINT:  Choose kids ahead and have them line up at the front and just hand the stick off to the next person once they have conducted their phrase. This will greatly reduce pausing/stopping time between phrases.

8. SONG ACTIONS

[Thanks to Klysta Schoof]

SEE THE VIDEO HERE of the actions (in the FB LDS Primary Music Leaders group)

9. SWAY & FREEZE

10. DIFFERENT LANGUAGES

[Idea and text below thanks to Camille Jensen-Weber]

Learning "He Sent His Son." We'll talk about how Jesus is everyone's Savior, no matter where you live. This is the phrase "he sent his son" in different languages from families in our ward (clockwise from top left, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Éwe). We'll match each language to the country and then sing the song with the new language instead of "he sent his son."
