FASTING ACTIVITIES

Explain that prayer is one way we can receive the guidance of the Holy Ghost, but Heavenly Father has told us of something else we can do to help us feel even closer to him when we pray. To find what this is (fasting), read Doctrine and Covenants 88:76.

Read Isaiah 58:6-7.

Fasting Song

Tune: London Bridge

I can fast for (person), (person), (person),

I can fast for (person), yes, I can!

Fasting means I skip two meals,

Skip two meals, skip two meals.

Fasting means I skip two meals,

And pray with purpose true!

I can fast for the poor,

For the poor, for the poor.

I can fast for the poor and give generously!

Fasting shows God that I care,

That I care, that I care.

Fasting shows God that I care.

Yes, I do!

Problem Solving Principle

Fasting is a principle of problem solving. Note that the footnote for the word “fasting” in Mark 9:29 is “problem solving.” Perhaps the child himself is struggling with something that “goeth not out but by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17:21). You may want to join with a child in fasting about a big problem they face or a big question for which they need answers.
