1. COMMENT CARDS

Hand out comment cards before the program, collect them after, and read them to the kids. Add a simple treat if that seems appropriate for your group. The kids love to hear the sweet feedback! (Get this comment card in the GOLD LIBRARY).

2. STUMP THE MUSIC LEADER

Play stump the music leader. (Like name that tune) Pianist and child pick a song. Then pianist plays a few notes from the melody from any part of the song to try to trick me when I guess.

3. WATCH A MOVIE

Watch movies of each of the primary songs from the program and let kids sing along.

Or if the kids are all "sung out," watch a short church film and have a treat.

4. GUEST MUSICIANS

Ask other guest artists to put on a “concert” for the kids, playing different instruments to the Primary Program songs and repeat as the kids sing along.

5. PRIMARY KARAOKE

Have sing along videos on a TV. Kids can pick which they want to sing. Borrow a karaoke machine and have a few kids at a time come up and sing with the microphone while everyone else sings along. OPTIONAL: Bring some hats, wigs, feather boas that the kids can choose from to make it fun.

Church sing along videos here.

6. PRIMARY CAKEWALK

Do a "cakewalk" around the primary room and give the kids little treats. Have tinier treat options so they can play multiple times (if your primary is small enough). Otherwise, if their number (or color) is called again, let them pick someone who hasn't gotten a chance to go yet. When the song stops or we stop it, we will call out their number (or color) and they get a little treat - or for non-treat options: finger light that says “thanks for being a light to our ward” or glow stick with tag, "Thanks! You lit up the primary program!"

If there is extra time play musical chairs with primary songs. This will give them a chance to hear more primary songs they don’t usually hear, have fun, and be rewarded for their effort!

7. TESTIMONY TIME

Have a music testimony meeting afterwards with the kids where they can come up and share their favorite song and what they learn from it.

8. LEADING FUN

[Idea from Tori An]

I've has this calling for so many years and one that keeps being requested is teaching them how to lead music with their own glow in the dark wands. I would cover the windows with black butcher paper. Everyone got a glow in dark wand (glow stick) and we would do 4/4, 3/4, 2/4 patterns to different speeds of songs, the kids always ask to do it throughout the year but the glow sticks are hard to find after July so it became a only on the program day event. (Our pianist did have a small light to see with.)

Also fun to do with the lights on and with licorice sticks.

9. PRIMARY SONG CRAFTING & COLORING

Let your kiddos draw or do some other paper-crafting that is somehow connected to the present primary theme or the next one. Play soft primary song music in the background on a cd or from the pianist.

The crafting can be individual or in groups, giving them to to chatter. This is the perfect time for leaders (yes, music leaders, too) to connect with any kids who can use an extra boost. Just sit and join them crafting and chat about whatever they need to talk about.

CHECK BACK LATER FOR MORE PRIMARY SONG CRAFT IDEA UPDATES!

Your Kiddos will LOVE coloring these one-of-a-kind coloring pages - with symbols from Primary Songs hidden in the pictures. This amazing bundle has 28 pages with 19 different symbols, (for a very low cost compared to other coloring pages on Etsy), covering almost any Primary Song you need! Plus there are two versions per symbol, one easier and one harder to give Jr. and Sr. Primary!

10. PARTY

Some kind of party.... Pizza, ice cream, cookie, etc.

Check with the parents of any with food allergies to get safe ideas and make sure to have options that include everyone.
