Repentance Play Mat Folder Games

What is repentance?

How often can I repent?

Can I repent of the same things over and over?

Your kiddos will learn about repentance as they read and trace scriptures and match the answer cards to the questions about repentance, sing the "Fard the Hard" Repentance Song and color the coloring page, and learn about stories in the scriptures of those that repented with the fun, engaging, interactive folder game!

Play Mats (i.e. TablePlays) provide unique way for young children to learn and interact with gospel topics in simple yet engaging and exciting ways! This Repentance Play Mat Folder Game fits well with any lessons on REPENTANCE. Perfect for church lessons, FHE, primary lessons, and bible homeschooling!

True Repentance

Very frequently people think they have repented and are worthy of forgiveness when all they have done is to express sorrow or regret at the unfortunate happening, but their repentance is barely started. Until they have begun to make changes in their lives, transformation in their habits, and to add new thoughts to their minds, to be sorry is only a bare beginning...

Steps of Repentance for Kids:

We have the FARD the HARD!

F - Feel Bad (recognize & feel sorrow)

A - Ask for forgiveness (ask God in prayer, ask those we've injured)

R - Right the Wrong (make restitution and confess sins if necessary)

D - Don't Repeat (forsake the sins)

Repentance Rocks

Invite a child to hold a bag, and fill it with rocks as the other children name wrong choices someone could make. Help the children compare the bag to the spiritual burden we carry when we sin. How is repentance like taking rocks out of the bag? You might remind the children that repentance is not a one-time event but a daily process.

Sins As Scarlet/White as Snow Object Lesson

[Idea credit: Jedi Craft Girl]

“Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” (Isaiah 1:18)

This object lesson teaches kids that each time we repeat, we can be made clean again.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Water

Food Coloring

Bleach

Alka-Seltzer

Clear glass or bowl

Teach the children that like this glass of water, we come into the world pure, but everyone makes mistakes and everyone sins. When we sin, we become unclean. Have kids name some of the the things they do wrong and their sins. Add drops of red food coloring for each sin. Talk more about choices actions that cause us to become unclean, such as being unkind to others, being dishonest, using bad language, lying, stealing, etc.

What can we do to become clean again?

We can ask the Savior to help us to overcome our mistakes. Through the Atonement, Jesus Christ paid a great and eternal sacrifice for our sins, making it possible for us to repent and come back to Him.

We can call on Christ to help us and to take away our sins. Add a cup of bleach (Christ’s Atonement). Then add an Alka-Seltzer (repentance) to the water. Watch the change before your eyes. Soon the water will be clear and pure once again. Talk about the steps of repentance and share your own or other repentance stories.

Cloth Object Lesson

Another good object lesson on repentance where kids try and scrub a stain out of white cloth and find they can't do it on their own, just as we can't repent and become clean on our own. See post HERE. Also talk about how sin may look enticing, but that "wickedness never was happiness." (Alma 41:10) Talk about the consequences of sin and how those consequences are usually anything but happy. Or, for those that say the wicked have a great time, talk about temporal vs. spiritual blessings / short term vs. everlasting/eternal blessings - "Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die..." (2 Ne 28:8-9) (i.e. see also Jesus/Idol Craft Activity).

Jesus offers to pay our “debts.” He overcame death so that we can all be resurrected, and He suffered for our sins so that we don’t have to suffer if we repent (see D&C 19:16).

This fun chatterbox has ways we can follow Jesus.

For a family home evening activity, discuss each of the pictures in the booklet you made. Then have each family member cut and fold a blank piece of paper to form their own booklets. Have each family member write or draw pictures on each page of ways he or she can follow the Savior (for example, studying the scriptures, attending church, or helping someone).

Arlo knows better than to get out of bed during rest time. And he definitely isn’t allowed to draw on the wall. But Arlo does it anyway, and then desperately attempts to cover up his disobedience before his mom finds out. When his efforts fail, Arlo discovers not only the misery that comes from hiding his sin but also the relief that comes through confessing it.
