While this primary song might be simple, it teaches kids that it's important that we to do and say good things so we can "shine brightly" as we represent Jesus Christ.
HOW CAN WE "shine" and share our light with others? What are good things we can do and say? (Side Note: This song would tie in really well with the hymn, "Have I done any good?").

2. STAR CONDUCTING:
Have all the kids conduct the music to the beat (moving up and down) as singing.
You can also invite a student up to "conduct" the group with the star conducting figure (or use the lights, finger puppet or glow-in-dark star stick, as they sing.
2. GOOD THINGS/BAD THINGS SEEK-AND-FIND
Reinforce the message of the song with this fun yet simple game.
WHAT YOU NEED:
Stars figures
PREP:
Write "happy things" kids can "do and say" each day (help mom do chores, say something nice to someone, serve your neighbor, etc.), and things that aren't so nice, on the back of each star.
Draw a line down the board dividing it in half. On the top of one side write "Good Things" or "Happy Things" and "Bad Things" or "Not Happy." Put the stars around the room (put on the walls, on back of piano, etc.).
To learn how to play this game, check out my article on this activity HERE.

5. RHYTHM STICKS
WHAT YOU NEED:
HOW TO PLAY:
Give each child a set of rhythm sticks.
Stick Pattern: Tap - tap - circle hands in and around (heart/circle shape)
To make it more challenging for Sr. Primary, on the "circle" part have them trade sticks with a partner, take a stick around behind their back, tap partners sticks, etc.
EXTENSION: CLAPPING ONLY
Senior Primary
Pat-Pat (own lap) - clap and hands in and around
Pat-Pat 1 hand on own right leg and other hand pats person's leg to the right then CLAP
Pat-Pat 1 hand on own left leg and other hand pats person's leg to the left then CLAP
Repeat pattern for the song.
Junior Primary
Just have them pat and clap on their own laps
Pat-Pat-Clap
Or if this is too difficult, modify further with just a PAT-PAT (2 beats) and twinkle fingers (6 beats), for each phrase.

6: ASL
Right now there isn't a great ASL video available but I did find this one.
It's something, for now, at least.
This is a good song for ASL because it isn't hard or long.
And there you have it, six ideas for learning, teaching, and reviewing, "I am like a Star."
7: HAND BELLS
How about adding some hand bells and playing the star twinkles?

8. HAPPY THINGS STARS
This song talks about doing "happy things" each day. Help kids understand and review what some of those "happy things" are with this simple, low-prep hunt-and-find game.
WHAT YOU NEED:
Star cutouts
PREP:
Print out the stars and write "happy things" kids can "do and say" each day on each star (help mom do chores, say something nice to someone, serve your neighbor, etc.). Write "Happy Things" and "Bad Things" on the board and divided into columns by drawing a line down the middle between the two.
HOW TO PLAY:
Place the stars around the room (put on the walls, on back of piano, etc.). Invite a couple students to look around the room for a star as everyone sings. Have them bring it their star to the front. At the end of the song, read what's on the star then let that child place on the board under the "Happy Things" column or the "Bad Things" column. Repeat until all stars have been found.
And that's it. Simple. Engaging. Effective. Fun.
That's it for now. Happy Singing!
