1. SHAKE, RATTLE, FREEZE

WHAT YOU NEED:

Skeleton Pose Cards - available in the GOLD LIBRARY

HOW TO USE:

Option 1: Sing the song as dancing (shake, rattle) - with hand movements, wands, or whatever  you choose - and randomly call out "freeze" during the song. Then hold up a card and have the kids make a pose after each "freeze."

Option 2: Make a different pose for each song phrase.

Option 3: Choose keywords and a pose for each keyword. (I suggest displaying the poses on the board with the keyword written above each card).

2. FINGER PUPPET FUN

WHAT YOU NEED:

Halloween Finger Puppets Printable - in the printables library

HOW TO USE:

Cut out the red finger holes. Laminate. Give one to each child (or switch after each song or verse). Let the kids walk their fingers to the beat of the song on their palm, in the air, or on other places on the body (lap, head, shoulder, etc.) with the finger puppet.

3. PUMPKIN TOSS

WHAT YOU NEED:

Giant Cardboard Pumpkin

Black Marker

Orange Paint

Beanbags

Or get an already-made one like the picture to the right*

HOW TO USE:

There are several ways you can use this. Here's one fun idea suggestion...

Have everyone sing a phrase of the song, then ask for a volunteer that wants to sing the phrase solo (or call on a kid that is singing and behaving well) and let them throw a beanbag through the pumpkin. Continue choosing new kids to come up for each song phrase.

4. PUMPKIN TOOTH PULL

WHAT YOU NEED:

Big Cardboard Pumpkin with white teeth

HOW TO USE:

The gist: Have a song on the back of each of Jack's teeth. Call up a reverent child to PULL one of his teeth. Sing that song.

5. TRICKS & TREATS

[Idea and photos thanks to Melissa Kolste]

WHAT YOU NEED:

Big Paper Candy Corns

Pumpkin with story written on it

HOW TO USE:

Need a fun Halloween lesson? Play Tricks and Treats! You can print (or make with construction paper like I did) candy corn to put around the primary room. On the back of each one is a treat that Heavenly Father has given us and a song about it (all songs listed below). One child selects a candy corn and another child picks a paper out of a Halloween basket that says a tricky way to sing that song. This works for either reviewing songs for your upcoming program or for doing different/fun ones!

I also cut out little pumpkins and made these handouts! (I don’t advise spending the time making them unless you have a printer and/or your children to speed up the process 😂) - get the pumpkin printable in the printables library.

Candy corn treat topics and songs:

-Temples #95 “I Love to See the Temple”

-Families #188 “Families Can Be Together Forever”

-Prayer #12 “A Child’s Prayer”

-Prophets #110 “Follow the Prophet”

-Christ’s Atonement #34 “He Sent His Son”

-The Holy Ghost #106 “The Still Small Voice”

-Commandments #136 “Love One Another”

-The Priesthood #125 “The Fifth Article of Faith”

-Teachers #177 “Teach Me to Walk in the Light”

-Ordinances and Principles #124 “The Fourth Article of Faith”

-Beautiful Seasons #246 “It’s Autumntime”

-The Plan of Salvation #4 “I Lived in Heaven” AND/OR #5 “I Know My Father Lives”

-The Book of Mormon #119 “The Books in the Book of Mormon” AND/OR #118 “Book of Mormon Stories”

Tricky ways to sing:

-Every other word

-Move and sing like a robot

-Jump

-Plug your nose

-Stick your tongue out

-Grandma/grandpa (missing teeth)

-Pat head and rub belly

-Don’t move lips

-Opera

-Stand on one foot

-Plug your ears

-Spin in circles

-Click your tongue

-Cowboy

-Advanced: give one minute to create a handshake with your neighbor and then sing while doing it!

8. HALLOWEEN TITLE SCRAMBLE

How about a fun challenge for the Sunday before Halloween?

WHAT YOU NEED:

Halloween Title Scramble Printable - in the printables library

[This game is best used for Senior Primary. (If you have any ideas for how to use in Jr. Primary, shoot them my way - support@ldsprimaryprintables.com)].

Put up the bigger picture symbols on the board for the title of the song you want to sing. (If you need to use a letter more than once, just write that letter on the board in place of the picture).

Display a poster-size printout of the ABC symbol key page. (Or you can tell the kids the first letter of each symbol/icon represents the letter of the picture, except 3 - I, W and X).

Using the displayed pictures, tell the kids their challenge is to decipher the Halloween code and figure out the title of the song. Once the kids have figured out the title, sing the song.
